I love to hunt, my dad loves to hunt, my brothers love to hunt and so do a lot of my friends and other members of my family. What we kill, we always eat and/or give to someone who WILl use what we kill for food. We are not living in early America where people relied on hunting to feed theirselves and to keep themselves alive. However, Hunting is a VERY, VERY important part of my life, and my brothers, and our up bringing. You see, to some people on the left, guns are bad. Guns are only used to kill people and to kill innocent little animals. A lot of liberals believe that anyone who owns a gun is a villian and a killer. I disagree with them 100%! You see, I think owning guns and hunting have helped me AND my little brother become the men we are today. Our dad had us in the dove field and the deer stand ever since i can remember walking. Many of you may say, oh my goodness, call DFACS! But i don't see it that way!!! You see, owning a gun doesn't make you some evil guy or make you a criminal. Guns have taught me soooo much about life. A few words that come to my mind are RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY!
first the issue of respect. You have to respect guns if you are going to use them. You have to understand the power that they have. It is true that they are used to kill people whether people do it on purpose or on accident, it doesn't matter. They can take lives in less than a second. They ARE very dangerous. And for that very reason is why you must respect the gun so much! It is a MUST if you plan on owning one and plan on hunting. You must also have respect for the land when hunting and using guns. There is nothing better than being outside. If you have never sat in a deer stand, then you don't know how peaceful and relaxing it actually is. Respecting the land by keeping it clean and respecting the animals you are trying to hunt is a big part of hunting. Killing animals for food goes all the way back to the beggining of time. Those who kill to eat the meat or to give it to someone who will are Respecting the institutions of hunting and guns. Those who just should animals for the fun of it are disrespecting the land and SHOULD BE PUNISHED!
The biggest thing that guns and hunting teaches you is Responsibility. It is a MUST for you to respect the gun and when you learn to respect it, then you will have a sense of responsibility. I witnessed this the other day. My boy Dylan was sitting in the dove field with me... any one that knows Dylan knows that he likes to have a good time. Most people would say 'i can't believe YOU let him HOLD his own gun! But i knew better! i knew that guns force you into being responsible. I know this because there was a time that my dad gave me a gun and that responsiblity was passed to me in the form of a 16 gauge double-barrell shotgun. The SAME exact gun i gave Dylan to use the other day. The SAME gun that i saw him grow up and become a mature young man who held in his hand a TON of responsibility. He did an AWESOME job and even killed the very first dove that flew into the field! I knew he would be fine. I knew that he had the ability to act responsible and to use good judgment. I think he learned just as i did a lot about what it takes to be Responsible. A gun forces you to do that. Great life lesson!

Now, I'm not saying guns are not used in a bad way, cause they are sometimes by idiot, foolish people. But guns are a way of life. They teach boys how to become men. They teach boys Respet and Responsiblity and that's something that we as a society LACK! So, I hope this blog helps people realize why we hunt and why we own guns and why we love every aspect of the two of them together. It's a way of life. It's about teaching you how to be a MAN! a REAL MAN!
